These photo walks are organized and created for you to enjoy the nuances of the Charleston area with an experienced local photographer. We visit an iconic location and talk about the basics of creating better images, no matter if you’re using a high tech camera or a mobile phone. Light, composition, and other topics are discussed. Most walks are between $35-50/person. This is not meant to be considered a full workshopjust exploring and learning together how to be better photographers out in nature. I look forward to seeing you in the field!

2025 Photo Walks

  • Folly Beach Winter Sunset

    Sunday February 16th, 2025

    5:30p.m. until dusk

Folly Beach is one of my favorite sunset locations. Winter is the best time to get the sun setting over the ocean. We’ll meet at the County Park and talk about late day light, learn how to compose a great sunset photo, and maybe even have some fun with creative in-camera motion. No fancy equipment necessary. A mobile phone or any camera will do.

Minimum 3 people to conduct the photo walk.

  • Dinner and a Sunset

Shem Creek Park, Mt. Pleasant SC

    Saturday April 5, 2025

    6:00 p.m. until Dusk

Let’s meet for a sunset outing at Shem Creek Park in Mt. Pleasant and have a pleasant dinner while we’re there. We’ll meet at Vickery’s at Shem Creek and enjoy a fantastic meal with a wonderful view. No need to get back to our vehicles as the walkway along Shem Creek is right outside. You’ll see shrimp boats, marsh views, pelicans and egrets, and if we’re lucky, there may be some dolphins swimming in the creek. No fancy equipment required…mobile phone photography is wonderful here.

  • Sunset at Botany Bay

    Saturday March 8, 2025

    5:00 p.m. -7:00 p.m.

Botany Bay Preserve, Driftwood Beach, Edisto Island

Let’s photograph one of the most intriguing locations in the low country in the warm light of late afternoon. This walk has been timed to enjoy the sunset as the tide recedes. We’ll get a chance to practice long exposures with the outgoing tide swirling around the base of the trees. Endless compositions await with shells, trees, and waves all around you. All skill levels welcome, including mobile phone photography. This is a location that every Charleston Local and visitors alike should experience.
